The Relationships feature on the Gather Data page of the Docs Made Easy app is a powerful utility designed to simplify how users retrieve data across related Salesforce objects for document generation.
When configuring a document solution for quotes, contracts, or formal communications, users often require access to fields not only from the primary object but also from related objects. This feature streamlines that process.
Relationships Feature Enables Users To:
- Define and visualize related objects (child and lookup) from the base Salesforce object selected during document setup.
- Automatically generate accurate merge field syntax for these related objects.
- Facilitate seamless integration of related object fields into document templates.
Users can set up a document solution for objects such as Opportunity and enhance data access to related objects like Account, Opportunity Product, Contact, and others using a visual relationship builder.
How It Works
- Navigation: Navigate to Document Setup, then Gather Data.
- Base Object Context: The Relationships feature displays a layout beginning with the primary object (e.g., Opportunity).
- Add Relationships:
- Add Child: Include related list objects (e.g., Opportunity Products).
- Add Lookup: Include reference-based objects (e.g., Account, via AccountId)
- Visualization: Relationships are visually mapped, showing direction, object names, and linkage fields.
- Merge Syntax Retrieval:Once relationships are configured, users can retrieve syntax for templates from:
- Merge Field Helper (during template upload).
- Available Merge Field button in each Add/Edit modal.
- Merge Field Helper (during template upload).
Best Practices
- Use clear, short aliases for child objects (e.g., Con1, OppPro).
- Verify Relationships before template design.
- Test templates using the Merge Field Helper to validate field availability.
- Avoid unnecessary Relationships to maintain performance.
Note:
Each added object can be customized with an alias and optionally filtered or ordered.
